GTA 6 Trailer 1 breakdown: Vice City, social media chaos and Lucia's debut
A look back at GTA 6's first trailer from December 2023: Lucia's prison opening, social media clips, swamps, beaches and the banner plane joke.
The first GTA 6 trailer came out in December 2023. Rockstar posted it a few hours ahead of schedule on the evening of 4 December (US time), after it began circulating online. It ended with a 2025 release window, which later moved twice before settling on 19 November 2026. Confirmed
Lucia opens the show
The trailer opens with Lucia in a prison jumpsuit. It was the first look at the series' first female lead in the modern era. Seen in trailer Her full name, Lucia Caminos, wasn't given until Trailer 2. Confirmed
Vice City is back
Neon streets, beach crowds, nightclubs, yachts and a busy shoreline confirmed the return of Vice City, now in a modern setting inside the wider state of Leonida. Seen in trailer
Social media everywhere
A big chunk of the trailer is styled as vertical phone clips: livestreams, stunts, fights and odd "only in Leonida" moments. It's Rockstar's satire of social media and viral local news. Seen in trailer Fans expect an in-game social app to be part of the story or the world, but Rockstar hasn't explained how it works. Fan theory
Swamps, mud and wildlife
- Airboats racing through wetlands, the area later named Grassrivers. Seen in trailer
- A sign for the Thrillbilly Mud Club, plus lifted trucks churning through mud. Seen in trailer
- An alligator wandering into a convenience store, a nod to well-known Florida news stories. Seen in trailer
The banner plane joke
A small plane tows a banner with a crude "nine 1 nine" pun. Fans think "Nine 1 Nine" could be an in-game brand, but nothing has been confirmed. Rumour
Robberies and the couple
The trailer closes on Lucia and her partner (later named Jason Duval) robbing a convenience store, then a montage of the two on the run. Seen in trailer
