GTA 6 rumour round-up: map size, PC version, online and file size
What's confirmed and what's only rumoured about GTA 6's map size, PC release, online mode, file size and pre-load, with each claim labelled.
With launch close, a lot gets repeated as fact that isn't. Here's where each big talking point stands, with the official facts separated from the rest.
Release date and platforms
GTA 6 launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 (Nov 19) on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two reaffirmed the date in its May 2026 earnings update. Confirmed It's set to unlock at midnight local time, so Asia-Pacific players get in first and the Americas last. Confirmed See release times by country.
Pre-load and file size
Digital pre-loading starts on Tuesday 10 November 2026: at midnight local time on PS5, and at 00:00 GMT worldwide on Xbox Series X|S (7pm ET on 9 November in the US). Boxed copies are a download code, not a disc, and are in stores from 12 November. You need up to 212 GB of free space. Confirmed Full table on our release time page.
Map size
Press previews and interviews quoted Rockstar North staff comparing the map to GTA 5's. Reports differ on the detail. Some say the whole map is about twice the size of GTA 5's, while another says Vice City alone is twice the size of Los Santos. One YouTuber's preview put it at three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's map. Rumour Until the game is out and mapped, treat any exact square-kilometre figure as an estimate.
PC version
There's no PC version at launch. Confirmed Rockstar hasn't announced a PC date. Guesses range from mid-2027 to 2028, based on past gaps: GTA 5 reached PC about 18 months after its console debut, and Red Dead Redemption 2 about a year after. Rumour More on our Is GTA 6 on PC? page.
Online mode
Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a "single-player experience", and no online mode has been announced for launch. Confirmed That doesn't rule out an online mode later. Reports point to 2027, including comments attributed to Twitch's CEO in a Bloomberg interview. Rumour Some expect a separate standalone launch, as happened with Red Dead Online. Rumour Full details in GTA 6 Online: what we know.
Lobby sizes, file splits and "secret" features
You'll see claims about lobby sizes, extra cities and hidden features. None have been confirmed by Rockstar, and many come from sources with a poor track record. Rumour We don't cover claims based on stolen material.
